2.day From Belgrade (Serbia) to Antalya (Turkey)

Our first day in Belgrade was short. We woke up early and wanted to buy some food, but again we hadn’t enough (serbian) money. We went up to the reception, a sleepy boy was there. He couldn’t change money, so we had to go to the town to change some money, to buy a Belgrad-card (for the public transport) and some food. We asked in a small shop after the Belgrade-card, and the shopkeeper said that we need to go down the street, and there we can buy a Belgrade-card in a tobacco-shop. It was a little bit early in the morning, a few people were on the streets. We found the mentioned tobacco-shop open, and we bought 2 cards with some credit. The shopkeeper couldn’t speak English, he asked something in Serbian, but we couldn’t understand him, so we said „Da.” /Yes./ The man gave us the cards. A few minutes later, on the bus we realised, we have more credits on the cards than we need, because the man asked how much credit we need: for one way, or to and from the airport. We said „Yes”, he gave us therefore „to and from” credits.

We went back to the hostel and checked out. The public buses leaves from Zeleni Venac to the airport. There is a big open market on the Zeleni Venac and it’s a major transportation hub of Belgrade. Finally we could change money here, bought some delicious bureks to eat. While we were waiting for the bus, we could observ the daily life of Belgrade. I may say maybe, Belgrade isn’t a good looking town, but it has a character. Some broken-down looking, a little Balkan-flavoure, some to the Near-East suggesting features, a lot of Socialism- style. First and last: I like it, if I have time, I would like to spend 1 or 2 days here.

We took the PTC Belgrade Line 72 bus to the Nikola Tesla Airport. The journey takes about 45 minutes, and leads through the socialist style districts of Belgrade. The airport isn’t big, but the duty free shops are good, and have some reliable goods.

We bought our tickets for the Pegasus Airlines. Our flight left at 11:55 to Istanbul. The airplane was pretty new and the journey was very short from Belgrade, less than 2 hours. The landing procedure in Istanbul (SAW) was slightly long and a little bit unpleasant. The transfer at SAW wasn’t too clear. We thought, we have to enter Turkey in Antalya, because we are only transfer passangers at SAW, and we don’t leave the transfer area in Istanbul. But that was wrong and we had to enter the country in Istanbul, we got our visas threre. The connection flight left only 3 hours later to Antalya, we had enough time to have a meal in the Mc’Donalds. I tried the turkish menü, the köfte menü ala Mc’Donalds. It was not bad, and I was hungry, too.

The second flight to Antalya was very quick, one hour later we arrived at Antalya airport. An assistant of the airport was already waiting for us with a transparent with our names. We arrived at the domestic terminal and had to go to the international terminal, because our luggage arrived there. After we got our luggages, we looked up the public bus (Nr. 600) from the airport to the city centre. Our hotel was in the old town, in Kaleiçi, the bus (Nr. 600 A)would be better for us, but it departs only hourly from the airport, on the other hand the bus Nr. 600 leaves every half hour. We took this one. The fare was 4 TL for two person (the busdriver bought our tickets with his card), and we said to him (in my basic Turkish J) we want to get off near the Mark Antalya. The Mark Antalya is a big shoping center in the city, relatively close to the Kaleiçi district. From here you need about 15 minutes to get to Kaleici. We bought some water and food in a shop, and asked for the direction. We had to go back to the Mark Antalya, cross the main street and go along the Şarampol Cadessi, we came to the Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi). We turned left here, than right on the Atatürk Cadessi, on to the Hadrian’s Gate. Crossed over the Hadrian’s Gate we arrived at Kaleiçi. Our hotel was the Ninova Pension in the heart of the old city. Fortunately we could find it very easily. This boutiqehotel is a little gem in the old town, the building and the interior are very tasteful. The price in winter was very affordable. Our room was cosy, but I can hardly understand, how can the bed be so uncomfortable in such a good hotel.
